Great Falls Residence
For this project in Great Falls, Virginia, the homeowners had spent nearly a decade in a location they loved, but within a house that never truly felt like theirs.
Originally built as a 1970s interpretation of Tudor architecture, the home no longer aligned with the clients’ vision or the way their growing family lived. The renovation sought to transform both the character and organization of the house, shifting it toward a modern farmhouse–inspired aesthetic while creating more open, connected living spaces.
The design approach focused on clarifying the home’s form and material language. The exterior was reskinned to establish a cohesive architectural identity, while a new front porch redefined the home’s relationship to the site and street. An addition inserted between the main house and the garage introduced a contrasting cladding, intentionally referencing the layered, incremental nature of traditional farmhouse architecture—homes that evolve over time.
The result is a transformed residence that feels both contemporary and rooted, allowing the homeowners to remain in the place they love while finally living in a home that reflects who they are today.
We believe that any home can be reimagined to reflect the lives, needs, and aesthetics of the families who inhabit it—regardless of its original condition or style.
